The Health Education team is a specialist division focusing on medical communications. We work across a diverse range of therapeutic areas including oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, women's health, cardiovascular, infectious, autoimmune and rare diseases. The team follows projects from pre to post launch, while working collaboratively with our global and UK-based clients to deliver creative and impactful medical communications that make a difference to healthcare professionals and patients.

What is the role?

The senior editor will ensure for high-quality deliverables, while providing critical review of complex projects. They will collaborate and mentor the editorial team to create new resources and processes, while encouraging best practice and adherence to guidelines across the business.

What will you be doing?

  • Copy edit, style and proofread documents, mark-up/style written content and figures prior to typesetting
  • Ensure all written work is produced in accordance with the Virgo house style/client style and regularly update style guides in line with shifting client preferences
  • Data checking complex documents and creating reference packs
  • Uploading content and references to client review platforms including Veeva and FUSE
  • Make suggestions for improvements in copy flow to align with intended scientific messaging
  • Critically review the design and format of materials, adding suggestions to make content more engaging and appropriate for the intended audience
  • Provide suggestions for new editorial resources to support the wider team and ensure adherence to editorial SOPs
  • Undertake advanced internet searches to support medical writers, through platforms such as PubMed
  • Ensure effective communication with all teams to allow for timely discussion of issues that may impact on the delivery of high-quality work on budget
  • Plan workload, forecast and resource planning for editorial work, and proactively highlight resource gaps and recommend solutions to the Principal Editor
  • Support and provide mentorship to the Editor as part of their development, reviewing their work when asked


As a Senior Editor, you will...

  • Have a scientific background with a degree in the life sciences
  • Have several years of editing experience within a medical communications agency
  • Demonstrate excellent copy-editing and English language skills
  • Show excellent attention to detail
  • Have proficient knowledge in use of PowerPoint, Word, Excel and specialist software, including Veeva and FUSE
  • Have strong knowledge of the ABPI and other regulatory bodies, as well as copyright law and procedures
  • Exhibit excellent time management skills and a demonstrated ability to forecast and manage workload
  • Have a flexible approach to working, with the ability to reprioritise and work under pressure when needed
  • Demonstrate excellent inter-personal and communication skills
