Main duties of the job

The Southampton Biomedical Research centre (BRC) is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the expanding Project Management team as a Project Support Officer.

The BRC, based at Southampton General Hospital, is a longstanding partnership between the University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHSFT). The BRC, funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), is responsible for improving people’s health and resilience throughout life by developing and delivering world-class research.

As the Project Support Officer you will be joining a highly dynamic team that is supportive and puts staff development at the forefront of its business.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

As the BRC Project Support Officer (PSO), you will provide and coordinate administrative services across the full range of BRC programmes. This will include, for example, the development of project plans using appropriate tools, taking follow-up actions as required and tracking activities to ensure all project tasks are completed within agreed timeframes.

As the successful candidate, you will have a professional and flexible approach to work; you will have excellent organisational skills allowing you to prioritise and plan your own workload to meet tight deadlines.

Your communication skills will be superb with proven ability to communicate across different channels (Teams, email, face-to-face etc) to all levels of seniority.

You will have experience of working in an office environment and have good computer literacy in Microsoft Office including, Teams, Outlook, Word and Excel.

The BRC supports both flexible and hybrid working, your requirements can be discussed during interview and agreed with the line manager

Essential criteria

  • Level 4 NVQ or Diploma or equivalent experience

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of spreadsheets, analysis and presentation
  • Experience in an administrative or support role
  • Experience of organising and prioritising multiple tasks within tight timescales / deadlines
  • Understanding of basic financial principles (costing; budgets; income)

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience using MS Project and MS Visio
  • Project management support experience
