Who you are:

The successful Payroll Administrator will be someone who has attention to detail, cares about the quality and consistency of their work and can process large volumes of data accurately. You must have an analytical / logical mindset, advanced excel skills and basic payroll knowledge.

Primary objective of the job:

To support the Payroll Manager and Payroll Supervisor with actioning the monthly Payroll, including general payroll administrative tasks and answering tax queries. Creating databases and maintaining the integrity of the Payroll data on excel spreadsheets while meeting all Payroll deadlines efficiently and accurately.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Process payroll accurately and within specified deadlines
  • Various administrative and data entry tasks as required
  • Dealing with general payroll and tax queries
  • Monitoring and managing the shared Payroll mailbox
  • Supporting the Payroll Manager and Payroll Supervisor in processing information submitted by the People Team for Starters, Leavers and Financial Changes on excel templates before uploading into the payroll system.
  • Checking sickness submissions, manually calculating SSP if applicable and uploading all into Payroll system. Producing SSP1 forms if applicable.
  • Producing Maternity / Paternity / Adoption / ShPP payment planners manually and entering the data into the Payroll system. Producing SMP1 forms if required.
  • Processing P45s and HMRC New Starter Checklists as well as tax code changes received from HMRC on Government Gateway
  • Supporting the Payroll Supervisor with checking and uploading stores timesheet data from the Time & Attendance system into the payroll system
  • Supporting the Payroll Manager with basic International Payroll admin tasks
  • Supporting the Payroll Manager with Month End accounting journals, reports, balance sheet reconciliations as well as year-end processes
  • Support the Payroll Manager with any administrative tasks relating to the new Payroll system implementation


What you’ll need:

Successful candidate will demonstrate the following experience, skills and behaviors:

  • Advanced Excel skills (PIVOT tables, conditional formatting, complex formulas)
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines
  • A high level of numeracy and ability to perform manual calculations as and when required
  • Ability to prioritise, remain calm and manage expectations under pressure
  • Basic knowledge of UK tax legislation
  • Basic knowledge of statutory and legislative regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organisational skills
  • Discretion to deal with sensitive and confidential information
