We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated HCPC registered Band 5 Biomedical Scientist with a BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent and who ideally has experience in working in a routine histopathology laboratory. Working as part of a team, you will possess excellent organisational and communication skills. You must be flexible in your approach to working, able to work well on your own initiative as well as providing guidance to support grade and trainee staff as required. There may be opportunity to complete an IBMS Registration Portfolio for the right candidate.

The Department of Cellular Pathology (BWH Site) provides specialist gynaecological pathology services to the Birmingham Women's Hospital and to the Regional Gynaecological Cancer Centre at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, which is part of the Pan-Birmingham Cancer Network. The Department also provides Perinatal Pathology and Placental Pathology services to BWH and other hospitals in the region and beyond.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to gain further histopathology experience and to work in a busy and developing department offering a wide variety of procedures in order to expand and develop your existing knowledge and skills.

The laboratory working hours are between 07:00 and 16:00 Monday to Friday with staff working on a rotational basis.

To carry out the full range of Histological technical procedures within the department and to have an in-depth knowledge of the science behind them, in order to be able to train / educate other staff as well as problem solve within the department.

To work together with the other BMS’s (Band 5 & 6) to ensure continuity, quality and efficiency of the work and service. Assist the Head and Deputy Head BMS in maintaining the departmental Quality Management System and working in line with the ISO 15189 and HTA standards.
