City: Leicester
Contract type: Full time
Job Overview

Do you enjoy therapeutic play? Have you ever tried it? The sky is the limit when it comes to imagination; take them on an obstacle course across a desert or make tea for a pirate on a secret island.

Are you interested in taking the therapeutic principles of purposeful and meaningful activity to the next level, enabling children and young people to achieve their independence? It may be to enable a young person to participate with self care, access to education, or play. Does this sound interesting? If so, then this may be just the creative and rewarding job you are looking for.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our, innovative community based team working across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland as part of the Children's Therapy Team.

The Children’s Occupational Therapy Service seeks to provide a high quality service to children, young people and their families in their home, school, nursery or clinic setting. We have developed pathways within Early Years, Complex Disability and Physical Disability, with specialist interests in palliative care, neuromuscular conditions, hemiplegia and splinting. You will also have the support of a Clinical Professional Lead.

You will have an Occupational Therapy qualification and HCPC registration and will need to demonstrate flexibility and initiative, to work as part of a Multidisciplinary and Multi Agency Team. You will need to be able to manage your time effectively and will be required to manage a designated caseload with support.

You will gain support and supervision to continue to develop your Occupational Therapy skills with children and young people. You will be responsible for the supervision of therapy support workers and students. We encourage continuous professional development through both internal and external training as part of the Personal Development Plan process.

You need to be able to demonstrate an understanding of working in a community setting, the complexities of working within a family and a multidisciplinary, multiagency environment, be familiar with children’s equipment and their use and be willing to be trained in the delivery of a number of assessment tools and interventions used by Occupational Therapists in community children’s services.

Car owner/driver essential as it is unlikely that public transport will meet the needs of this job.
