Main duties of the job
Are you interested in working with a complex patient group including respiratory conditions, plus size patients, challenging social dynamics, complex equipment provision, and moving and handling assessments? Are you looking to join an established team of highly specialised AHPs? Are you passionate about developing your skills in the areas of acute rehabilitation and complex case management? We have an exciting opportunity for a fixed term Band 6 Occupational Therapist who will work within our diverse, enthusiastic, and motivated Medicine Therapy Team at UHS.

About The Team
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Our integrated therapy team covers a diverse range of wards including a Respiratory High Dependency Unit (RHDU); hepatology; renal; respiratory; gastroenterology; infectious diseases and general medicine wards. We routinely cover complex patient presentations including neurological, cognitive, bariatric, moving and handling, complex social situations, and tissue viability. Our therapy team is a valued part of an expansive MDT, priding itself in delivering patient-centred care. The entire MDT strives to be at the forefront of innovation and development.
About The Therapy Services Department
This post is part of the wider Therapy services department. You will have many opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge through our in-service training. You will be part of a large department of over 300 wte Therapy staff including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy support staff.
Role Responsibilities
Essential Skills
Holds an OT qualification and HCPC registration
Has a broad range of experience of therapeutically treating people with a range of physical
conditions.
Has experience in assessing for, and fitting, a wide range of equipment, including pressure
relief and hoists.
Can adapt to a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, with good time management skills.
Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
Enjoys and thrives when working within a team
On application form demonstrates a clear desire to work within UHS therapy services

Desirable Skills
Our therapy services department provides a service 365 days a year and therefore it is you will be able to participate in our weekend and Bank Holiday cover, which is undertaken on a roster basis.

- Undertake the assessment and treatment of complex patients with a variety of pathologies, and therefore you should have a broad range of experience and skills to meet the demand of the caseload.
- Undertake the assessment and treatment of complex patients’ rehabilitation and complex discharge planning.
- Develop leadership and management skills to be able to supervise and support other members of the team.
- Engage in training and developmental opportunities for yourself and the delivery of training for others.
- Provide leadership to the wider Medicine Therapy Team with support from the band 7s
- Mentor students from local universities.
- Lead on service development projects.
