The Opportunity
Reporting to the Pre-Construction Manager, the Senior Mechanical Estimator will work alongside estimating colleagues to develop tender enquiries so that attractive & commercially competitive tenders can be produced.
The Senior Mechanical Estimator will help develop and support Estimating and Work-Winning Strategies to ensure the continued development and improvement of the regional South-West business unit, to support the development and growth of the national core business, always ensuring Tilbury Douglas match the capabilities of the wants and needs of its customers / clients.
In this role you will help ensure the delivery of uniformity & excellence through Quality, Estimating / Cost Planning, and Best Practice techniques and procedures.
What you will be doing
- Ensure Site Surveys to establish / reinforce project details are undertaken with cognizance of any Health & Safety issues that may exist.
- Produce and submit concise package enquiries to the marketplace enabling quotations to be received and analysed in a timely manner to suit the bid timeline programme.
- Ensure clear and precise tender measures are conducted and detailed to include within the computer estimating programme (Trimble Estimation) and along with the Quoted prices present to the Senior Management in the Adjudication Suite of Documents (Excel) identifying all decisions taken during the bid such as chosen supplier and better buying levels taken.
- Upon the finalisation of Adjudication and Settlement adjustments relay the detail to the team and provide clarification of our bid within the overall submitted offer.
- Respond effectively and attend all necessary meetings both internal and external to support the Bid Team during and post tender submittal.
- Upon the success of the bid provide the effective handover of the Estimate to the Regional Manager or designate.
- To ensure submissions remain ahead of competitors, developing winning proposals that balance client needs; legal, commercial, and operational risk and target margins.
- At Preferred Bidder Stage, continue to Support the Lead Negotiator; Assisting with Compilation of all Necessary Tender/Bid Information and Developing a Detailed knowledge of the Issues Involved.
- Ensure that Good Practice and Legal Compliance are maintained.
- Support the management in the implementation of the company’s BS EN ISO 9001 Quality Management & 14001 Environmental Procedures, ensuring consistency of approach across Regional Businesses.
You we will need from you
- Strong technical & engineering background, with experience of customer management, with strong inter-personal skills.
- Proven track record as a senior Estimator within regional / geographical office.
- Good understanding and knowledge of Bid Management, quality systems and estimating work-winning procedures.
- Excellent understanding and knowledge of pricing and operation of building services.
- Excellent knowledge of Mechanical & Electrical Services Design & Cost elements.
- Able to present and discuss proposal negotiations with partners, clients, and their representatives.
- Must have the ability to self-manage tasks & people to a tight deadline, however contributing to a multi-disciplined regional & work-winning team.
- Well-developed commercial and presentation skills.
- Excellent communication skills, organisational skills and to be a team player.
- Dynamic and focused.
- Display constructive leadership in support of customers bid strategies.
- Well-developed entrepreneurial spirit and propensity towards innovation & best practice.
- Keen sense of opportunity and the ability to accurately assess ‘Added-Value’ for the customer over Risk.
- Keen sense of opportunity and the ability to accurately assess risk / and management.
- Good computer skills, working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products (Estimation Packages, Excel, Word).
- Excellent analytic, numeric, literacy skills.
- Minimum of HNC Qualification & / or suitable experience to suit the role requirements.
