Semi Skilled (Yard)
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport
Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Glasgow
Contract type: Full time
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. We run the Glasgow Subway, a host of specialist bus services and are responsible for delivering better public transport for all.
The Subway has been modernised twice in its history with the previous modernisation taking place in the late 1970s. We are currently undertaking a £288m transformational project which will result in the Subway being one of the most advanced systems in Europe. This is your opportunity to be part of the future of Subway, helping us to deliver the first full Unattended Train Operation (UTO) system in the UK.
As well as an excellent remuneration package, giving potential earnings of £32.3K to £35K gross inclusive of shift allowances, SPT offers a great career average pension scheme, free Subway travel and subsidised rail travel to and from work.
About The Role
As a member of the Maintenance team, you will carry out low level preventive maintenance and inspections on a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment including pumps, compressors, motors, points and buildings. In addition, you will carry out repairs to pipework, drains and track fixtures within competency. You will operate a variety of plant and equipment including cranes, forklift, track mobile, locos, train sets, wash plant and company road vehicles.
Further details of the role and key responsibilities are set out in the job description.
Contractual hours will be Monday to Friday working an average of 38 hours a week on a rotating shift cycle including early shifts starting at 7am and back shifts finishing at 10pm.

Experience of working in a highly safety critical maintenance environment is desirable, with the ability to demonstrate high levels of concentration and vigilance. As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete an online technical assessment. Candidates meeting the agreed standard will then be invited to attend an interview and will subsequently need to pass a Safety Critical Medical examination.
