Residential Care Practitioner (Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children)
City of York Council
Date: 1 week ago
City: York
Contract type: Full time
This post is suitable as a job share opportunity.
A wonderful opportunity has arisen to add to our existing team supporting young people to live semi-independently in York through our supported accommodation offer.
These roles will be expected to work across our residential and supported accommodation provision, although will predominantly support unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in York.
The role involves helping young people to develop a sense of belonging, developing local networks of support and providing support and guidance in developing lifelong independent living skills.
This is a hugely rewarding opportunity in helping children and young people in very unique circumstances and requires empathy, compassion and resilience.
We would particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience, who have settled in the U.K and who can speak a foreign language (for example: Arabic).
City of York Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express themselves spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
For further information or an informal discussion please contact Andrea Smith (Service Manager) at [email protected] @york.gov.uk or on 07394844371.
Closing date: Sunday 24 November at 12 midnight
Interview date: Week commencing Monday 2 December 2024.
