Who are Women’s Aid?

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of just under 180 organisations which provide over 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. For 50 years we have campaigned on behalf of our members and survivors to shape policy and practice, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse.

Our support services, which include our Live Chat, the Survivors’ Forum, the No Woman Turned Away Project, the Survivor’s Handbook, Love Respect (our dedicated website for young people), the national Women’s Aid Directory and our advocacy projects, help thousands of women and children every year.

Purpose of the Research & Evaluation Officer role:

As Research & Evaluation Officer, the successful candidate will play an integral role in the promotion and upkeep of the Routes to Support datasbase of local violence against women and girls (VWAG) services and refuge vacancies, and to support with the analysis. The role will also involve supporting with data collection, analysis and use of data to inform policy and practice as well as supporting with research work within Women's Aid.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Research & Evaluation Officer:

To be responsible for the promotion and upkeep of the Routes to Support database of information on local violence against women and girls (VAWG) services and refuge vacancies

  • Respond to enquiries about Routes to Support and the UK Gold Book
  • Research and identify services eligible for inclusion in Routes to Support
  • Participate in promotion of the Routes to Support project
  • Identify potential system development to improve data collection systems and user experience on Routes to Support
  • Support with work of the Routes to Support Steering Group including arranging meetings, taking minutes and conducting the annual user evaluation.

Support with data collection, analysis and use of data to inform policy and practice.

  • Ensure that service information on Routes to Support is kept updated and accurate, liaising with local VAWG services and collecting data as required, monitoring changes to identify trends in service provision.
  • Work with the Senior Research and Evaluation Officer and Research Manager to analyse, report on and disseminate data from Routes to Support
  • Ensure that data collection systems for Routes to Support are informed by the wider needs and priorities of other work across the organisation.
  • Co-ordinate Freedom of Information Requests to local authorities, including disseminating the request, collating responses, data analysis and dissemination of the findings.

Support with research work within Women’s Aid

  • To support with the implementation of Women’s Aid research
  • To support with the use and dissemination of findings from Women’s Aid research  
  • To support with administrative and promotional activities for Women’s Aid research projects as required.

What we are looking for in our Research & Evaluation Officer:

  • A non-judmental approach to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and a clear understanding of the gendered nature of violence against women and girls.
  • A solid understanding of research principles and practice
  • Experience with designing, conducting, collecting, interpreting and analysing data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good level of data entry and computer literacy with advanced abilities using excel
  • Ability to work on own initiative: initiate, plan and prioritise work, work to tight deadlines and respond to urgent unplanned demands.
  • Ability to work with sensitive confidential information and ensure confidentiality.
  • Ability to review complex information and identify it's implications
  • An ability to understand, analyse and visualise large sets of quantitative data
