The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Overview
The role of the Production Cell Engineer is to support operations by setting and approving equipment to run in a safe and efficient way. This is a skilled role, requiring attention to detail, making sure products are produced within specification limits and customer quality expectations.
You will be expected to develop processes, working on and leading projects to improve operational output and reduce manufacturing costs in-line with site key performance indicators. A key area of this role is to champion 6S initiates, improving and maintaining a safe working environment whilst driving lean manufacturing principles at a shop-floor level.

Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities
- To safely set and approve equipment to run, ensuring product quality levels are achieved
- Reading engineering, customer drawings and quality documentation to validate product sizes
- To lead 6S initiatives, improving the working environment and process productivity
- To work with the Site Services team, to develop maintenance schedules, carrying out basic planned maintenance on machinery and equipment to reduce operational down-time
- To work in conjunction with Team Leaders and Manufacturing Engineers to deliver improvement projects with suppliers of consumables, equipment and tooling to improve machine outputs
- To train operators on how to use the production equipment
- To train other Cell Engineers as appropriate to ensure flexibility and a multi-skilled setting team
- To assist operators with machines when adjustments need to be made to ensure the cell remains fully operational
- To use measuring equipment to ensure components meet specification
- To support Quality and Engineering functions with either new business or process improvement trials
- To clearly understand SPC and use the methodology to improve process quality levels
- To support continuous improvement events and quality circle meetings
- To work in conjunction with the Team Leaders, Value Stream Manager and Site Manager to deliver key strategic projects to meet the objectives of the department and the Site as and when required
- To perform any other duties necessary, as requested to by the Value Stream Manager and Site Manager to carry out job function to achieve departmental/company objectives
- Study product information to develop professional knowledge
- Demonstrate products to potential customers
- Advise customers on the use of products and explaining technical information
- To support a strong culture of near miss reporting across all staff to assist in driving improvements to the site safety performance
Qualifications:
Desirable Qualifications
- An Advanced Apprenticeship in a relevant Engineering discipline or equivalent. Employees working towards these qualifications will be considered.
- A GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
- A Yellow Belt Qualification in Lean Manufacturing Techniques
- Certification of completion of an abrasive wheel training course
Essential Experience
- General Engineering experience in machine setting, toolmaking or maintenance
- Setting of Uniaxial and Isostatic presses
- Setting of Centreless and Bore Grinding machines
- Operating in a Safety orientated culture
- Previous experience within a production environment in an Engineering or Setting role
- Experience in Production Engineering in an ISO 9001 environment
- Experience of an ISO 14001 and 18001 would be an advantage
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels within the business
- Ability to build and maintain successful relationships with colleagues
- Can demonstrate the ability to earn respect of team and peers
- Approachable and supportive
- Performance Driven, Responsive and self-motivated
- Analytical in approach to problem solving
- Able to work to prioritise workload in order to meet tight deadlines
- Can demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and ask questions
- Flexible to work out of normal contracted hours when production requires
