To actively take part in meeting the needs of the patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), working within the Trust's policies and procedures and the philosophy of the department.
To be an effective member of a multidisciplinary team under the direction and supervision of an RN and to be continually aware of the need for confidentiality.
Where appropriate, to continue to develop own capabilities in nursing tasks in order to deliver a high standard of care.
To participate in ensuring effective use of resources and reduction of wastage. The post holder will have direct contact with patients in their capacity as HCA under the direction and supervision of a RN. within the departmental areas

There will be a requirement for administrative functions within this role e.g. data input and maintaining health records.
The post holder is able to communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, carers and colleagues.
The post holder will be expected to support patients having received distressing news.
Be able to communicate effectively with and advocate effectively for patients and other service users who may have barriers to communication.
Prioritises own time and manages case load as directed by senior colleagues to ensure that patients receive appropriate care.
Reports to the Nurse in Charge any concerns about the ward environment and takes appropriate remedial action to maintain safety as directed.
Ensures safe and responsible use of equipment, identifies and reports to senior colleagues any malfunctions and takes action to maintain safety as directed
Assesses ward supplies, with particular attention to essential stores, and reports shortfalls to the nurse in charge to ensure that appropriate levels are maintained at all times.
Assists with emergencies in an effective manner as directed by senior staff.
Effectively liaise with colleagues, the multi-disciplinary team and other UHSussex departments and primary care services communicating information sensitively to ensure that the patients’ pathway is met.
To deal with and manage any conflict to resolution within the department and escalate
Undertakes housekeeping tasks such as cleaning beds, medical equipment and furniture. Carries out the disposal of dirty linen, assists with general tidying in the department
