Let us introduce the role

AWE is currently recruiting for an Explosives Assessor for the Explosive Materials and Initiation Science (ExMIS) Group.

Working within the Explosives Life & Assessment Team within the Materials and Analytical Sciences (MAS) Sub-Function, you will have the opportunity to build on your current experience to carry out bespoke life assessments and aging trials of explosive materials. The role is predominately desk-based although there will be opportunities to undertake hands on testing, data collection and material aging including reviewing aging methodologies and strategies.

Who are we looking for?

We Do Need You To Have The Following

  • Whilst we would love to hear from candidates who have a background in explosive ordnance and engineering, any experience in safety or material life assessment (or both ideally) is key.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and ability to write technical reports will be required.
  • A willingness to travel overseas is essential to participate in collaboration projects.

Everyone who works at AWE brings unique skills and perspectives to the table. We recognise that great people don’t always ‘tick every box’. That’s why we focus on your potential, your fit with our values, your transferable skills as well as your experience. Even if you don’t meet every point below, but you feel that this role and AWE are a great fit for you, please go ahead and apply, we’d love to receive your application.

Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we’d like you to have experience in some of the following:

  • Ideally candidates will have some experience of carrying out safety assessments or material characterisation.
  • Planning technical projects, programmes, and trials.
  • Analysing, characterising, and assessing samples using agreed analytical procedures and processes.
  • Identify and rectify problems in analysis and processes.

The role offers a comprehensive training and development package where you can apply your transferable skills and experience within safety or material assessment and work collaboratively on a variety of projects, programmes, and trials.

You’ll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.

Some Reasons We Think You’ll Love It Here

AWE has wide range of benefits to suit you. These include:

  • 9-day working fortnight – meaning you get every other Friday off work, in addition to 270 hours of annual leave.
