Ecologist
Stantec
Date: 3 days ago
City: Newcastle upon Tyne
Contract type: Full time
Stantec is currently seeking a Consultant Ecologist to join our growing team. We are in an exciting period of growth, and this is a good opportunity to join our team of passionate professionals who share our vision of innovation, scientific research, and a forward-thinking approach to biodiversity.
You will form a valuable part of our ecology team and will work alongside our multidisciplinary teams to identify and advise on ecology-related compliance risks associated with the planning system, including Biodiversity Net Gain, protected species, and invasive non-native species.
You will support the Lead Ecologist and work with the other teams regionally to provide ecological support, including undertaking field surveys, writing reports, and undertaking BNG assessments. You will also have the opportunity to assist the Lead Ecologist in assisting Capital Delivery in managing relations with environmental and wildlife groups, charities, regulators, and other stakeholders.
We can offer you many benefits, including a competitive benefits package, a strong culture of learning and development, and a great work environment. As we look to further diversify and grow our wider Stantec UK business, there will be future opportunities across our diversified business lines to further your career.
About You
You will hold a minimum BSc degree in ecology or a similar environmental discipline. You should have proven experience within a professional ecological consultancy and a track record of managing ecology matters on simple projects or specific species on more complex ones.
You will be skilled in conducting UKHab surveys and habitat condition assessments and utilising the Statutory Biodiversity Metric (or previous versions). Additionally, it would help ifyou had a strong understanding of PEAs, protected species surveys, assessments, relevant legislation, policy, and the planning process.
Good IT skills, including understanding GIS systems (e.g., ArcGIS), are essential. You should be able to assist in embedding biodiversity into our programs and streamline reporting.
A proven ability to collaborate effectively, produce well-written and concise reports, present results, and communicate clearly within a multidisciplinary team is crucial. A full UK driving license and willingness to travel are also required.
Ideally, You Will Also Have
The Stantec community unites over 31,000 employees working in over 450 locations across 6 continents. We have worked with our clients and communities in the UK for over 150 years. We plan, design, deliver and manage the development and infrastructure needed to support the creation of sustainable, healthy and prosperous communities.
Our teams provide effective and relevant solutions, translating our clients’ vision into valued consents, deliverable plans for projects and programmes, and efficient designs for delivery, based on technical excellence and deep market insights. We deal with today’s challenges but also keep a fairer, better tomorrow in sight, looking at how we deliver clean growth, support radical changes in our economy and meet the needs of future communities.
