Complex Wholesale Claims Expert (80-100%)

About The Role

This is a high-level technical claim-handling position based in London, UK. You will be responsible for a broad portfolio of highly complex claims across a variety of lines of business but with a focus on Casualty & FinPro. US and EMEA claims handling experience is required for this role. The claims portfolio is predominately drawn from London & Zurich wholesale business. The role will also involve handling or acting as a consultant on EMEA large losses as required.

You will be part of the UK Claims Leadership team, composed of Head Claims UK, Head Property, Head Casualty & Head Aviation.The position reports into the Head of UK Claims, London, with a dotted reporting line into our Technical Excellence Large Loss team. The UK claims team is based in London and Manchester, and comprises 18 claims professionals of different backgrounds, disciplines and languages, handling losses in the wholesale and retail markets across all the main lines of business.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of complex claims across a variety of lines of business and locations. Develop and implement appropriate strategy for fair claim resolution, to include settlement negotiation where needed.
• Acting as a technical role model in large and complex loss management; coaching, training, and mentoring junior staff.
• Sharing knowledge and providing actionable Claims' insights to senior internal stakeholders, including studies, reviews and portfolio analysis relating to claims, emerging risks, legal, regulatory, and societal developments and other industry topics.
• Assisting underwriters and customer & distribution management teams in preparing presentations to pitch for new business or attendance at client meetings and events.
• Assisting with Quality Assurance File Reviews.
• Leading and/or supporting on ad-hoc technical claims projects as required.
  
  

About You

We are looking for someone with a forward-thinking, intellectually curious approach to everything they do. To be successful, you need to have strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation and partnering skills with:

• Minimum 10+ years US and EMEA commercial insurance claims expertise and market knowledge with a strategic and solution focused mindset.
• University degree or equivalent professional experience. Legal degree and/or insurance qualifications beneficial.
• Technical claims handling and large loss management skills with the ability to demonstrate high level of credibility and performance in previous roles.
• Strong coverage, investigation, loss evaluation and claim valuation skills.
• Ability to engage and manage external experts, including proactive cost management. Strong litigation and outside attorney management skills.
• Strong understanding of underwriting and other insurance functions.
• Ability and confidence to successfully interact at Senior Management level and experience in dealing with multiple partners with diverging needs.
• Consistent track record in establishing high quality relationships with internal collaborators, customers, and brokers.
• Fluent in English; proficient in additional languages is a plus.
  
  

The role will require occasional travel primarily to the US and within EMEA region.
