Around 3,500 farmers based in East Anglia and the East Midlands supply our four advanced manufacturing sites with eight million tonnes of sugar beet every year. We, in turn, make this in to over 1 million tonnes of sugar, serving customers across the UK, Ireland and increasingly growing commercially in the EU and world sugar markets. Job Focus
Managing British Sugar’s agricultural communications plans to support its strategy to be at the heart of a thriving British beet sugar industry.
The main purpose of the role is to design and deliver effective communications to sugar beet growers, industry stakeholders and British Sugar Agriculture Managers, supporting growing levels of engagement and awareness.
The role will also support driving British Sugar media, digital media and social plans across all channels.

The main purpose of the role is to design and deliver effective communications to sugar beet growers, industry stakeholders and British Sugar Agriculture Managers, supporting growing levels of engagement and awareness.
The role will also support driving British Sugar media, digital media and social plans across all channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage and implement a grower and stakeholder engagement plan for British Sugar aligned to British Sugar strategy priorities
- This should include a style and tone appropriate to the business and channel
- The plan should include messaging and approach for various channels (My British Sugar, Force 24, Whatsapp, verbal etc) as well as support engagement at shows and in person
- Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels through owning a comms calendar and sign-off process
- Develop and manage stakeholder networks in the Agricultural world to support British Sugar strategy including representing British Sugar externally in meetings with local stakeholders, at industry events and conferences and through trade bodies
- Deliver eye-catching and informative content including reports, infographics and film to support communications objectives
- Develop training for Ag Managers and other people within Ag team to ensure they can effectively deliver messages
- Ensure the Ag team is well informed and briefed at key times
- Demonstrate the highest personal health and safety standards at all times and work effectively with other team members to carry out the tasks safely and effectively
- Act in accordance with the British Sugar values and behaviours
- Educated to degree level and/or significant experience in a professional communications role
- Knowledge of a range of communications disciplines
- Knowledge of the agriculture/manufacturing and/or food industries
- Knowledge of basic project management
- Knowledge of design and production of promotional material
- A good working knowledge of the structure and workings of the UK sugar beet industry
- Proven experience in the design and delivery of communications / marketing / promotional material
- Knowledge and experience in digital communications including use of film
- Experience of proof reading and maintaining high quality standards
- Experience of event planning and organisation
- Experience of working to deadlines and budgets
- Experienced with design software
- Experience within the sugar beet and agricultural sector
- Experience of managing social media channels
- Commitment to maintaining the Health & Safety for self and others
- Commitment to upholding the British Sugar Values
- Consultative and capable of building strong relationships
- Ability to manage multiple topics and respond with flexibility to changing communications priorities and deadlines
