We are on a mission to enhance the digital literacy and professional digital capabilities across the Environment Agency and are looking for an Advisor to lead this activity. You’ll join our newly formed Digital Strategy team, which is helping drive organisation-wide digital transformation.
Reporting to the Senior Advisor (Digital Workforce and Skills) you’ll be responsible for:
Responding to incidents is an important part of what we do. With this in mind you’ll have an incident role and should be ready to make yourself available to respond or provide business continuity support. This may attract an additional payment. Full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you.
The team
The Digital Strategy team sits in Strategy, Transformation and Assurance. We work across the EA, with our Digital, Data and Technology Corporate Services partner (DDTS) and the wider Defra Group in three broad areas:
1 - Digital strategy development and the EA’s strategic approach to digitally-enabled business transformation,
2 – Ensuring our workforce has the people and skills it needs for a digital future.
3 – Enabling and supporting corporate level IT change with DDTS.
Experience/skills Required
We are looking for a person who has
Experience of working at a strategic and operational level, ideally in a large and diverse organisation, with the ability to understand and contribute to the big picture .
Enthusiasm for problem solving and can demonstrate how they use their initiative to proactively identify and address risks and opportunities.
Excellent people skills, is an effective communicator who appreciates different perspectives and who is able to develop strong networks to enable efficient and successful delivery.
Highly desirable skills/experience:
Experience and understanding of learning and development to support the Government Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) profession and/or digital priorities.
Contact and additional information
We’re a national team, giving you the flexibility to work from any office location. We offer flexible working hours, ideally covering the core hours of 10:00-15:00, but this can be negotiated.
For external appointees there is an expectation to work at least one day a week from an office to support integration into the organisation, subject to regular review.
Occasional travel for meetings, away days etc including occasional overnight stays is required. On average once a month but may change subject to team needs.
Interviews will be held face to face in Bristol or via MS Teams toward the end of November/early December.

- Developing strategic and operational plans to support staff to develop the digital skills appropriate for their roles and evolving business needs.
- Supporting the development of a corporate view of our current professional digital workforce/skills, help identify future needs and input into future strategic digital workforce planning.
- Designing and implementing a comprehensive professional digital skills programme and create upskilling opportunities at pace and scale.
- Promoting the development of a learning and innovation culture.
